Mankato residents who find themselves knee-deep in autumn leaves and garden debris can take a sigh of relief. The City of Mankato has announced a fuss-free solution for the disposal of yard waste this season. In a recent social media post, the local government outlined details for a free yard waste drop-off at Minnesota Paving and Materials for non-commercial Mankato residents, as long as they bring proof of residency. The aim is simple: to manage seasonal yard waste efficiently and sustainably.
The drop-off site, located at 57032 231st Lane, is prepped to accept compostable materials ranging from fallen leaves to grass clippings—but there's a catch, materials must be separated. Woody debris should be kept apart from other compostable matter, a necessary step to ensure that waste is processed correctly.
By accommodating the cyclical rites of yard maintenance, Mankato is staving off the potential chaos of unmanaged compostable waste—a subtler form of stewardship that could easily be glanced over amid the hum of everyday concerns.
The City has, made an earnest plea to its residents: "Let's keep Mankato clean and sustainable!"
