The city of Maple Grove recently celebrated the graduation of a new cohort of D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) instructors. In a training session that spanned over two weeks, participants were immersed in methods and practices to help combat drug abuse and violence in schools and communities. According to a social media post by the Maple Grove Police Department, the training concluded last Thursday in the city council chambers.

The Minnesota D.A.R.E. program, along with Maple Grove's own officers Laurel Slawson and Justin Smith, led the training, ensuring that officers from not only the state but also from across the country are well equipped to positively influence the youth. "Thank you to Minnesota D.A.R.E. and Maple Grove D.A.R.E. Officers Laurel Slawson and Justin Smith for leading another successful training," the department expressed in their social media post, acknowledging the contributions of the instructors. The department also indicated their intention to continue to host the program in the following year, stating, "We look forward to hosting the next course in 2026!"

Through the dedication of officers like Slawson and Smith, the Maple Grove Police Department seems determined to continually improve and expand their capabilities, in order "to make a positive impact in their communities."
