Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey's office revealed stark numbers today, highlighting the financial hit taken by the state due to budgetary decisions made by President Donald Trump and his administration, in a report that's resonating with communities bracing for the impact. Via an updated online dashboard, the Healey administration has made it transparent that Massachusetts is facing a $3.7 billion shortfall in federal funding, directly attributed to Trump's policies and Congressional Republican actions, as reported on Mass.gov.
Breaking down the $3.7 billion, the dashboard points out that $3.3 billion was sheared off by Congress, and an additional $399 million was slashed through executive actions by President Trump, funding which previously flowed into homeland security, disaster prevention, and public health among other critical services, and while Massachusetts residents are trying to understand the ramifications Governor Healey stated on Mass.gov, "Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans' funding cuts are making life more expensive for Massachusetts residents, undermining public safety, taking away health care, and hurting our businesses."
This fiscal hemorrhage includes a shocking revelation of a $664 million anticipated loss in tax revenue, stemming from what's referred to as President Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill." The economic reverberations of this legislation also forecasts a grim health care coverage landscape, with up to 300,000 individuals potentially losing access through programs like MassHealth and the Health Connector, while an additional 108,500 residents may find themselves without SNAP food assistance benefits according to the dashboard.
