For those with an appreciation for nature's artistry and the real thing, Maumee Bay State Park Lodge and Conference Center is about to be your latest go-to spot. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is teaming up with the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) to present the 'Feathered Friends & Fine Art' exhibit, a celebration of both Ohio's birding culture and scenic panoramas captured through various artistic mediums.
Starting October 24, visitors to the lodge can feast their eyes on more than 30 art pieces, spanning from paintings and photographs to mosaics and prints. But it's not just about looking, the opening reception invites attendees to mingle with the artists - and believe it or not, some of these folks will actually talk about what lights their creative fires. The reception gets going at 5 p.m. near the Icebreaker Lounge, because where else would you break the ice with strangers but a lounge named for it, right?
According to ODNR's announcement, this exhibit isn't just an isolated affair. It's part of a larger 'Arts in the Parks' program that attempts to blend the lines between artistic endeavors and the great outdoors, so visitors can find their zen in an Ohio State Park while also getting cultured up to their eyeballs.
The Ohio Arts Council, a state agency that's behind the funding and support of these quality arts experiences, has its hands in this project – ensuring that not only do Ohioans get to enjoy some pretty pictures, but they also help stimulate local communities economically and educationally. The 'Feathered Friends & Fine Art' exhibit is open to the public from October 24 up until January 16, 2026, giving anyone with a love of art or birds or, dare we say, both, plenty of time to swing by.
For more information on the exhibit and to plan your visit, you can flap on over to the ODNR website. Just think, next time you're pondering a lazy Sunday, you could instead be shaking feathers with some of Ohio's finest feathered friends – in art form, of course.
