Mayor Muriel Bowser is encouraging residents across Washington, D.C.’s eight wards to celebrate Halloween safely through a series of free, family-oriented events. The Mayor’s office announced increased traffic enforcement and the deployment of Halloween Go Teams to assist residents and ensure public safety during festivities, according to the Office of the Mayor.
The Metropolitan Police Department will enhance traffic monitoring, with drivers urged to slow down, stay alert, and avoid distractions. On Friday, from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., Halloween Go Teams will be stationed in key areas, while families are reminded to wear reflective clothing, stick to familiar routes, and inspect all treats before eating, as reported by the Office of the Mayor.
Ahead of Halloween night, Mayor Muriel Bowser issued safety reminders for residents, emphasizing vigilance as celebrations take place after dark. Children are advised to "only cross the street at street corners/crosswalks" and to "always look around in all directions before crossing the street." The Mayor’s office also urged the use of bright clothing and flashlights to improve visibility. In addition, residents are reminded, "Remember that while you are out enjoying Halloween activities, if you see something, say something," with the option to report suspicious activity by texting 50411. Non-law enforcement Go Teams will be deployed to assist with de-escalation and ensure a safe environment during citywide festivities, as stated by the Office of the Mayor.
