Commuters in Boston should prepare for upcoming MBTA service changes in November that will affect the Orange, Green, Red, and Framingham/Worcester lines. According to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, these adjustments are part of planned upgrades, including signal improvements on the Orange Line and the installation of the Green Line Train Protection System.
Orange Line service will be suspended between North Station and Forest Hills during the weekend of November 1–2, and again between Back Bay and Forest Hills from 8:30 p.m. on November 14, through the weekend of November 15–16. Shuttle buses will operate along these routes, and riders are advised to allow for extra travel time. The Commuter Rail will also provide fare-free rides between certain stations to reduce inconvenience.
On the Green Line, service between Park Street and Union Square and Medford/Tufts will be suspended beginning at 8 p.m. on November 4, for nine days while crews install the Green Line Train Protection System, which is designed to enhance safety and reliability.
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority advises riders to check for updates through station signage, public announcements, or the agency’s website. Transit Ambassadors and staff will be available to assist during the disruptions, and passengers can subscribe to T-Alerts or follow MBTA’s social media for real-time service information.
