The Memphis Safe Task Force operation has entered its fifth day, with U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi reporting 74 additional arrests and the seizure of 16 firearms. This brings the total to 227 arrests and 65 weapons confiscated since the start of the initiative, according to FOX13 Memphis.

As per Local Memphis, among those arrested were alleged gang members, including a murder suspect and a juvenile found with about two pounds of methamphetamine.

WREG reported that from Monday to Friday during the operation, Memphis recorded one homicide, 31 aggravated assaults, 23 vehicle thefts, and six robberies. In comparison, the previous week saw two homicides, 47 aggravated assaults, 72 vehicle thefts, and 12 robberies. Memphis Mayor Paul Young noted that in addition to federal activity, the Memphis Police Department has made 167 arrests. He pointed to city data showing overall crime fell 13% in 2024 and 16% so far in 2025.

Concerns have been raised by community leaders about the potential impact of increased enforcement. The Memphis branch of the NAACP urged residents to remain cautious. Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy acknowledged the arrests but noted the strain on the justice system, saying courts could face over 100 new cases daily, which may cause delays. He suggested a night court could help address backlogs.

Attorney General Bondi shared a story highlighting long lines at Shelby County Clerk’s offices for registration and car tag renewals, reflecting heightened public activity during the enforcement period.
