A police incident in Milford, Massachusetts, resulted in injuries to both a suspect and an officer during an attempted warrant arrest yesterday. According to a social media post by the Milford Police Department, officers were dispatched following a request from Domingo Mejia for police assistance at his former residence because of an active restraining order.

Officers en route to meet Mejia at the AutoZone on East Main Street, they were informed of his outstanding probation violation warrants related to domestic assault and battery, along with destruction of property, and upon their arrival, Mejia was notified about the warrant, at which point he became combative, and a Taser was used to bring the situation under control. During the altercation, Mejia sustained a head injury from a fall, and one officer injured his hand. "Our officers acted swiftly and professionally to ensure the situation was brought under control without further harm, to themselves or the individual," Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino was quoted as saying in the department's post.

Mejia was initially taken to Milford Regional Hospital under arrest and later transferred to Boston Medical Center due to a disturbance and for treatment of his injury. He remains in police custody on multiple charges, including disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and assaults on police officers, with the latter charge being leveled four times against him.

As the community reacts to the incident, questions remain about the use of force and how officers handle resistance from individuals with active warrants. The Milford Police Department maintains that its officers showed restraint and good judgment in a difficult situation, especially one occurring in a public area with potential risks to bystanders. Police Chief Robert Tusino stated, “I appreciate the restraint and sound judgment shown by the responding officers in a rapidly evolving and potentially dangerous encounter taking place in a location filled with members of our community.”
