The city is gearing up for the annual Crabapple Fest, and with the celebrations come road closures and detours to accommodate both the setup and the crowds. Crabapple Road will be shut down to traffic beginning at 10 a.m. this Friday, October 3, as confirmed by an announcement on Milton’s official city website. This closure stretches from the Heritage Walk roundabout all the way to the intersection with Birmingham Highway/Broadwell Road.
The closure, which is scheduled in advance of Saturday's Crabapple Fest, is set to facilitate the vendors and event organizers as they prepare for the flurry of activities. Crabapple Road is expected to reopen before 10 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, shortly after the event concludes. Meanwhile, drivers will be rerouted onto Heritage Walk, where traffic is predicted to swell, especially during the festival's busiest hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the following day.
According to the city's announcement, pedestrians should take note of the increased foot traffic crossing Heritage Walk, particularly families heading towards the Kid Zone at City Hall's parking lot. The authorities suggest visitors take advantage of the shuttle services and free parking available at four designated lots around the festival vicinity.
Parking lots include Milton Community Church, Crabapple Crossing Elementary School, Northwestern Middle School, and Milton High School—all located along Birmingham Highway. Shuttles will run between these lots and the Crabapple Government Center, easing the journey to the heart of the festivities. It should be noted, however, that the Milton High School lot may face additional congestion on the morning of October 4 due to SAT examinations scheduled at the same location.
