The world of theater is about to get a heavy dose of Muppet magic, as Miss Piggy is set to make her grand entrance on the Broadway stage. According to NBC New York, the famed porcine star will join the equally iconic Kermit the Frog for a special appearance in "Rob Lake Magic with Special Guests The Muppets," adding some notable star power to the mix.
While Miss Piggy has dazzled audiences across various platforms over the years, this marks her first step onto a Broadway theater. The Broadhurst Theatre will play host to this holiday extravaganza, with previews starting on October 28 and officially opening its doors on November 6. Fans of the diva and her Muppet peers can catch the act until January 18, which should gives plenty of time for those wanting to take in the unique blend of magic and Muppetry.
Rob Lake, the magician at the helm of the show, comes with his own considerable resume. As a quarter-finalist from America's Got Talent's 13th season, Lake has built a reputation for his illusions. Beyond performing, he has lent his expertise as a creative consultant to numerous Broadway productions such as "Death Becomes Her" and "Disney's Aladdin," signaling this collaboration with the Muppets could be just as enchanting as his past works.
A spectacle is practically guaranteed when Miss Piggy steps onto the scene. Broadway.com teases that audiences should "expect showbiz sparkle, jaw-dropping illusions and a healthy dose of glamour" from the diva. Amidst the promised dazzle, Lake's team, including assistants Jesse Forcha, Noah Mason, and Jennifer Orf, will join the Muppet entourage to bring a blend of reality and puppetry to life in what may be one of the more unique offerings of the season.
The creative team behind the show also includes several industry experts. Bethany Pettigrew serves as the creative consultant, while Kevin Zak oversees the script. This collaboration aims to deliver a Broadway experience that blends the whimsical world of the Muppets with the art of magic. According to Broadway.com, if Lake attempts something as bold as sawing Miss Piggy in half, he should be prepared for her trademark “Hiii-ya!”
