In a somber tribute to Missouri's firefighters who have perished in the line of duty, Governor Mike Kehoe has directed the Missouri State Capitol dome to bathe in red light, starting at sunset yesterday, and ending with dawn the following day. The illumination coincides with the weekend's memorial events, which serve both to honor the fallen and to provide solace to the families and colleagues they left behind, as stated in a recent announcement by the Governor's Office.

The ceremonial lighting aligns with the Fire Fighters Memorial Foundation of Missouri's weekend activities, including a candlelight vigil on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. which was held at the Fire Fighters Memorial in Kingdom City, and Sunday's memorial service slated for 10:30 a.m. recognizing firefighters whose deaths have recently been acknowledged by the foundation's board as line-of-duty deaths, this according to information obtained by Governor's Office press release.

Governor Kehoe has also issued a proclamation establishing October 5 as Fire Service Memorial Day in Missouri, a gesture aimed at celebrating the valor and dedication of firefighters statewide. These declarations, and the State Capitol's crimson glow, come as a physical testament to over 400 firefighters who gave their lives and a reminder of the sacrifice they made to ensure the safety and protection of others.

State Fire Marshal Tim Bean, speaking on the significance of the red-lit Capitol dome, mentioned, "The Capitol Dome shining red serves as a beacon, reminding the fire service community that their fallen brothers and sisters are remembered and appreciated and informs the public of the importance of service to others and commitment to our communities," he said in a statement obtained by the Governor's Office.
