In a recent announcement from the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office, Jerramya Mitchell, a 38-year-old Modesto resident, has been convicted on charges of domestic violence and committing a hit and run that resulted in injury. According to the announcement made on social media, which was posted on the official Facebook page of the Stanislaus County District Attorney, Mitchell is facing a significant prison sentence that could potentially last up to 10 years and 4 months due to his history of violence.
The violent altercation that led to these convictions occurred on July 5, while arguing with his girlfriend in her vehicle, thrown by Mitchell, a glass container struck her head, causing serious injury. Subsequently, driving at high speeds, Mitchell later collided with another vehicle; showing a cold disregard for the aftermath, he chose to flee the scene rather than provide assistance or exchange information with the other involved party.
Law enforcement officials apprehended Mitchell ten days following the incident. When they finally caught up with him, Mitchell attempted to evade capture by running away and gave a false name upon being detained. However, his true identity was established using prior booking photos, along with the identification provided by his distinctive facial tattoos.
Scheduled on November 14 is the sentencing for Mitchell, with the District Attorney's Office underscoring the gravity of the case and reminding the public of the resources available to victims of domestic violence. Experiencing such violence, for anyone, can be a daunting and isolating experience; however, help is offered around the clock through the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-SAFE(7233) or by texting "START" to 88788, and emergency situations should prompt a call to 9-1-1.
