For those facing the often daunting complexities of separation and divorce, Montgomery County is stepping up with a helping hand. The Montgomery County Commission for Women (CFW), in collaboration with the Montgomery County Bar Association’s Family Law Section, is about to launch a series of free, monthly virtual seminars. Announced on October 28, this initiative aims to guide residents through the legal and practical aspects of uncoupling in Maryland.
On the practical side, these sessions, starting November 5, are going to occur via Zoom, from 7–8:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month, running through June 2026. If a first Wednesday coincides with a holiday, the seminar will not leave attendees in the lurch; a new date will be announced in advance to keep everyone on track. In the virtual rows of these seminars, family law attorneys from Montgomery County will lay out the roadmap of separation and divorce proceedings. These local legal minds are set to explain a process that often feels like a labyrinth.
When it comes to content, the seminars are nothing if not comprehensive. Topics on the table include alimony, various methods of dispute resolution, the mysteries of financial statements, the how and why of protective orders, and the division of property. It goes even further, instructing participants on the logistics of when and where to file the necessary legal documents. For those interested in attending, details and registration can be found on the Montgomery County website.
