With the N.C. State Fair in full swing, the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is on the beat, ensuring fun times don't compromise safety, as highlighted in their latest update, reported by NCDOT. One key effort is the implementation of Safety City, a Gov's Highway Safety initiative offering interactive games and tips to keep all ages safe in transit.
NC By Train is rolling out the stops for fairgoers, with a special route to the festivities that's hot on tickets but even hotter on rail safety messages, "We have fenced the entire limits of the fair this year. Any place there is fencing, we want to make sure that we are staying away from the fence, and we’re not crossing the fencing on to the railroad corridor for any reason. We want to make we are only using the designated crossing, which is Powell Drive," Troy Creasy, NCDOT's Rail Division Branch Manager of Design and Construction, told NCDOT Now.
Meanwhile, pedestrian safety remained paramount, especially for the younger crowd last week as State Transportation Secretary Daniel Johnson and officials paced with Hunter Magnet Elementary students in Raleigh in celebration of National Walk, Bike and Roll to School Day, an event raising awareness for pedestrian safety and highlighting the value of walkable communities according to an update from NCDOT.
There's also some good news on the environmental front, as the Fall Litter Sweep saw volunteers and NCDOT workers gather a hefty 496,140 pounds of litter this session, proving that their efforts in keeping North Carolina clean is no small feat NCDOT has now collected over 8 million pounds of litter in just 2025 alone, the report by NCDOT Now highlighted.
As for improving their service, NCDOT remains open to inputs via its annual customer service survey, seeking feedback to enhance its transportation network, programs, and those involves with the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles, gear towards safety and efficiency, it was noted in a recent NCDOT release.
