The Nevada County Sheriff's Office is tapping into the creative talents of the area's youngsters with its third annual Children's Holiday Card Contest. The call for entries invites children between the ages of 4 and 12 to submit holiday-themed artwork that might just become the face of the Sheriff's Office's official 2025 greeting card. The young artist whose work is selected gets more than just bragging rights; they also secure a starring role in a special classroom event.
Announced on the Nevada County Sheriff's Office's official Facebook page, the contest will not only spotlight a child's artwork but will also provide a unique morning ride to school. The winner will be personally picked up at home in a Sheriff's patrol vehicle and escorted to an awaiting Donuts with Deputies party. Ignited by the promise of donuts, children will have the chance to chat with deputies, seated in their patrol vehicles, and shake hands with Sheriff Shannan Moon.
For those interested in participating, the Sheriff's Office has made the contest forms available for download on their website. Surely aiming at fostering community ties and promoting youth involvement, the Sheriff's Office provides detailed instructions on how artwork can be sent in. Entries can be submitted via email to [email protected], uploaded online, dropped off in person, or mailed—just be sure to get them in before the deadline on Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, at 10 a.m.
Students from all local elementary schools and homeschooled children are encouraged to throw their pencils into the ring. So as not to favor one educational institution, children from around Nevada County are free to participate. The winning artwork and its young artist will be announced by mid-November, the Sheriff's Office has said, with their parent(s) being contacted to coordinate the school party.
