The City of New Braunfels has cast open the doors for public opinion on the design for its future largest park, and is looking for the voice of the community to echo through the halls of its construction process. Marked for an overture to New Braunfels citizens, an open house event on October 15th is where ideas will be taken and notions of what this new green space could become will be shaped. Located at the NBU Service Center from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, city officials and the design team are on deck, ready to unveil their master plan concepts and eagerly await public feedback.
Ahead of the public meeting, Garry Ford, the City's Transportation and Construction Service Director, laid out the stakes, "...The input gathered at this open house will play an important role in refining the final master plan for the 145-acre property," in a statement obtained by the official City of New Braunfels website. The sprawling Northwest Park, a 145-acre tract of potential recreational and green space, is hoping to stitch together a rapidly growing portion of New Braunfels with the existing network of parks, trails, and greenways.
Setting the backdrop for this ambitious project, the park's land was compiled through strategic acquisitions: a purchase of 130 acres in February of 2024 by the City Council and an additional 15-acre contribution by the developers of the Arroyo Verde neighborhood. The funds for such an endeavor were supplied by the New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation. With around 70 acres ripe for recreational development and another 50 boasting wooded terrain primed for trails and habitat conservation, the park promises variety for residents and visitors alike.
Residents who are eager to leave their mark on the fabric of the city's future landscape are invited to the meeting, where they can pore over the proposed concepts and air their visions. Further details, including the precise location and time of the meeting, can be found on the New Braunfels government website.
