In the early hours of this morning, with the determined pulse of nearly 1,000 footsteps echoing against the pavement, New Castle County Police and recruits took to the streets for more than just a ceremonial jog. The occasion was the @marketstreetrunforblue, a 5-mile race that weaves its purpose around support and remembrance.
Uniting under a shared crest of public service and camaraderie, the 54th Recruit Class and officers from the New Castle County Police Department converged on Market Street to partake in a run that filters its proceeds to the Philadelphia Police Foundation. As documented in their social media post, the participants joined forces for a cause that stands firmly for those in blue—and for those who have left the ranks too soon. "This morning members of the 54th Recruit Class and New Castle County Police participated the @marketstreetrunforblue," the department shared.
Each stride in the final mile of the race carried extra weight, as participants paid tribute to the heroes of Philadelphia who fell while performing their sworn duties within the last 18 months.
The foundation provides funding for necessary equipment, training, and programs that are not covered by the city's budget.
