Commuters on State Route 167 are now adjusting to new tolling rules that took effect early today. The changes include updated lane markings, revised pricing, and new requirements for carpool and motorcycle drivers between Renton and Pacific.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), carpoolers—defined as a driver with at least one passenger—must have a Good To Go! account and a Flex Pass set to HOV mode to use the express toll lanes without charge. Motorcyclists are also required to have an account and a motorcycle-specific pass to travel toll-free.

A new Pay By Mail option is available for drivers without an account but includes an additional $2 fee per trip. Toll rates for account holders will range from $1 to $15, depending on real-time traffic conditions, consistent with the system on I-405.

New lane striping has been introduced to guide express lane access, with dashed lines marking entry and exit points and double lines indicating no crossing. Regular, non-tolled lanes on SR 167 remain open for those not using the express lanes.

The updated rules do not yet apply to the construction area on the SR 167 bridge over Third Avenue Southwest in Pacific, where the HOV lane will continue to operate without tolls until work is complete. The Washington State Department of Transportation is encouraging early adoption of the new system by offering free Flex Passes and motorcycle passes while supplies last through GoodToGo167.com.
