An incident involving a North Hills School District bus and two other vehicles occurred yesterday afternoon, but fortunately, no serious injuries have been reported. The crash, which took place in Ross Township, prompted emergency services to rush to the scene on North Balph Avenue around 3:30 p.m.
Informing families about the situation, North Hills School District relayed that the bus was transporting students from Highcliff Elementary and North Hills Middle School when the accident occurred, as stated in a letter obtained by WPXI. Preliminary investigations suggest that two cars collided, and at least one of the vehicles struck the bus. Despite this chain of events, no injuries were reported among the students on board.
As authorities worked to manage the aftermath, North Balph Avenue was closed for over an hour. It has since been reopened. The Quaill Volunteer Fire Department advised the public to avoid the area until the incident had been cleared, and pointed out that the closure would remain in place for some time.
According to an eyewitness account provided to KDKA Radio, Katie Yokel, a local resident, reported that the incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. Yokel also confirmed that, although children were present on the bus at the time of the crash, everyone involved appeared to have escaped serious injury. Multiple fire, EMS, and police departments responded to ensure the safety of those involved and to investigate the circumstances behind the collision.
Continual updates on the situation are expected as the investigation into the exact causes of the crash evolves.
