The State Archives of North Carolina hosted a ceremony honoring 34 state employees who recently completed their certification as Certified Public Managers. The North Carolina Certified Public Manager® (CPM) Program is a 300-hour training course designed to strengthen leadership skills among public employees and align them with the needs of the state.
According to the North Carolina Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) release, the CPM Program combines in-person and virtual sessions with independent assignments and concludes with a capstone project over approximately 14 months. State Human Resources Director Staci Meyer stated that the program provides accessible, accredited leadership training tailored to North Carolina’s workforce.
Since its establishment in 1982, the CPM Program has certified 2,614 public managers across multiple state departments. The North Carolina Office of State Human Resources manages the program, which is nationally accredited. Christie McNeill, deputy chief of staff and chief operating officer for Governor Josh Stein, delivered the keynote address at the ceremony. Graduates represented various departments, including Commerce, Health and Human Services, Justice, and Transportation. The list of honorees was released by OSHR, reflecting participation from employees across both urban and rural counties.
