Residents of Columbus, Cincinnati, and surrounding areas, it’s time to enjoy the tranquility that graces our skies. According to the National Weather Service, expect a stretch of quiet, dry days ahead as we sail through the workweek under the influence of some benevolent surface high pressure. But don't get too comfortable, as a deep area of low pressure is forecast to usher in gusty winds and rainfall as the weekend approaches.
Early morning commuters might have found themselves driving through patches of fog and reduced visibility, especially along and north of the I-70 corridor. An SPS (Special Weather Statement) was issued to navigate us through the heart of the morning rush. But, as we all know, fog is but a fleeting visitor and is expected to quickly disperse post sunrise. This leaves us with another sunny day adorned with diurnal cumulus – all part of the weather tapestry courtesy of expansive ridging above and high pressure below.
Tuesday night's sky will stay clear, providing a stage for overnight temperatures to glide down to the low 50s and upper 40s. Anticipate possible reprises of low stratus and river valley fog as our nightcaps. This might lead to a repeat performance come Wednesday morning if confidence in the forecast firms up in the model guidance.
While we bask in warmth for the moment, a subtle cool-down is on the horizon. A dry cold front is on the calendar to sweep through Tuesday into Wednesday. It promises to turn down the heat slightly, with temperatures expected to struggle to rise above the upper 60s and low 70s. But let’s not be too quick to frown, as the high-pressure system camped out over the upper Great Lakes will extend its reach into our area, maintaining seasonable temperatures and dry conditions through to the end of our workweek grind.
Looking further down the road, weekend weather plots a tale of two fronts: a warm and breezy Saturday gives way to a Sunday sprinkled with showers and a cooler embrace. "Ahead of the front, it will be breezy and warm on Saturday with afternoon highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s," underscores the forecast discussion from NWS. Just a little something to keep in mind as you plan your weekend exploits. But for now, enjoy the calm over the valleys and byways of Ohio – good weather days are indeed upon us.
