Attention all OKC drivers: significant narrowing along key roads and highways is set to continue impacting commutes and travel routes. As of last night, north and southbound I-35 between SH-9W and SH-9E, along with east and westbound SH-9W at I-35, were reduced to one lane until the early hours of this morning to accommodate striping work, according to a recent update from Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT).

The ODOT has advised that eastbound SH-9W at I-35 near Goldsby will maintain one-lane traffic through October as part of the larger project to transform the I-35 and SH-9W interchange into a Diverging Diamond Interchange. This is expected to last through early 2026. Drivers are urged to prepare to quickly adapt while navigating this stretch of road, especially with the intermittent lane and ramp closures continuing through November.

In nearby Norman, Tecumseh Rd. will also be narrowed to one lane between Flood Ave. and N.E. 12th St. from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly through next week due to ongoing construction activities. Further, US-77 will experience various, intermittent lane closures from Classen Blvd. to Main St. in Norman nightly through early November for resurfacing work. Motorists should anticipate delays and consider alternate routes where possible.

Looking across the broader network of highways, ODOT reports that I-40 will maintain lane reductions at several key points through fall 2025. The closures include narrowings between Meridian Ave. and May Ave., over I-44, and shifting between I-240 and Town Center Dr. in Midwest City. Additionally, eastern I-240 on and off-ramps at Anderson Rd. will be closed through fall, further impacting travel options. Motorists wishing to navigate these areas should exercise caution due to the lack of shoulders and merge distances, or use alternative paths like I-240 and US-62/N. 23rd St. as detours.

Extended road work is occurring elsewhere in the region, with the I-35 lanes between Memorial Rd. and US-77/2nd St. in Edmond expected to be intermittently narrowed through summer 2025 and a complete closure of SH-37/S.E. 4th St. in Moore through summer 2026 for a railroad bridge project. Commuters are forewarned to similarly expect disruptions to routes involving SH-66, US-81, and numerous other arteries that snake throughout the state. The SH-152 closure at Banner Rd., near Union City, necessitates detours such as using US-81 to I-40 to SH-4 or US-81 to SH-37 to SH-4.
