OKC Parks is launching three fall break camps across multiple locations in the city this October, aimed at keeping kids engaged and active during the break. One of the camps is being offered through a new partnership with Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma, a collaboration that Lisa Hubbell, recreation manager for OKC Parks, expressed excitement about. "We are so excited about the chance to partner with the Girl Scouts to offer a fun, free fall break camp for our community," Hubbell told OKC Government News. The camps are slated to welcome participants from October 13-17, though costs, suitable age ranges, and operating hours differ depending on the program.
The partnership camp, named 'Girl Scouts Love the Outdoors', will be based at the Taylor Recreation Center and accepts girls aged between 6 to 18. Activities planned include nature scavenger hunts, crafts using natural materials, and a host of new skill-learning opportunities. For those interested in a wider range of outdoor activities, the Outdoor Adventure Camp at Macklanburg Recreation Center offers archery, hiking, fishing, rock climbing, kayaking, and more for children ages 8 to 14. Daily field trips add an additional layer of adventure to the program, which is priced at $185.
Meanwhile, the Kidz Rock Fall Break camp is poised to cater to a wide age group, from 6 to 17 years old, providing a mix of STEAM, recreation, and cultural activities. Hosted at various venues including the Minnis Lakeview, Pitts, and Southern Oaks Recreation Centers, this weeklong program is set to prioritize creative play and community involvement, priced at just $15 for the entire break. Both of the Girl Scouts and Kidz Rock programs include lunch and snacks for participants.
Parents interested in registering their children for any of the camps can visit okc.gov/parks or call (405) 297-2211 for more particulars.
