The Will Rogers Senior Center in Oklahoma City will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Tuesday next week, coinciding with the birthday of its namesake, humorist and cowboy Will Rogers. According to Oklahoma government website, the event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3501 Pat Murphy Dr. and will feature music, activities, and refreshments, free for all attendees.
OKC Parks Director Melinda McMillan-Miller highlighted the milestone as a tribute to the people who have supported the center over the decades. The Will Rogers Senior Center, established in 1974 and opened in 1975, was the city’s first recreation facility dedicated to senior citizens. It has since served as a space for arts, fitness, and social activities for older adults.
The anniversary celebration will include performances by the Will Rogers Senior Center Garage Band and the Square Dancers, both long-standing groups within the center’s community.
Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation continues to oversee parks, trails, and recreation centers across the city, focusing on programs that promote health and community engagement. Additional details about the event are available on the OKC Parks website.
