The festival promises to be a family-oriented affair, designed to encourage responsible pet ownership. In a move to surely to be met with enthusiasm, OKCAW will be waiving all adoption fees for dogs during the event, fostering an opportune moment for attendees to possibly meet their new furry companions. The festival will also feature a low-cost vaccine clinic by Angel Fund OKC to provide pets with affordable healthcare services.
A variety of activities are on the docket for the day including live music, and arts and crafts that should appeal to a broad audience, while trick-or-treating and face painting offer special attractions for children. A Howl-o-ween parade and costume contest for pets are expected to be a highlight, with a noon start time. Festival-goers interested in participating in the parade can register their pets for free online between 10 and 11:45 a.m. OKCAW Superintendent Ronnie Schlabs captured the essence of the event stating, "It’s a day of fun, families and wagging tails, and maybe the day you meet your new best friend," in a statement obtained by the City of Oklahoma's official website.
Furthermore, in recognition of Adopt a Dog Month, OKCAW is extending a month-long promotion through October, offering reduced adoption fees of $30 for all dogs. For those unable to attend the festival but interested in adopting, OKCAW facilities located at 2811 SE 29th St, are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with opportunities to visit and adopt pets starting at noon.
