Last night, the Long Beach Police Department reported two separate gun-related incidents, including a fatal shooting on Falcon Avenue and a non-fatal shooting on 7th Street. According to a news release from the LBPD, the first incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 1:28 a.m., when officers were called to the scene of a shooting that fatally wounded one male adult.
The victim, found with a gunshot wound to the upper body, was swiftly transported by the Long Beach Fire Department to a local hospital, but sadly did not survive. Homicide detectives have arrived to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder. The LBPD announced that more details will be shared through an upcoming news release. Though violence is a story old as time, its sting does not dull, and the community waits to truly understand and subsequently heal.
Later that same day, the second gun-related incident unfolded on the 2800 block of 7th Street at approximately 5:52 p.m. A male adult victim, in this case, was thankfully not injured, reported to the police that his vehicle had been struck by gunfire. Investigators revealed that the suspect, another male adult, fired shots at the victim, with the bullets hitting the vehicle instead of the occupant, making it a no-hit shooting event. The LBPD is currently working to unravel the motive behind the attack, and their inquiry is actively ongoing.
The LBPD has not provided information connecting these two shootings, and at this point, each is being treated as a separate incident. As the investigation continues to fully grapple with the day's violence, the police department will likely offer more clarity on whether these events speak to a larger pattern of criminal activity in the area or are isolated incidents.
