The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has reported a successful outcome for their recent Operation BRIDGE, which stands for Bridging Recovery, Interdiction, Data Gathering, and Enforcement. The two-day initiative, held on October 1-2, aimed to dismantle the interconnectedness of drugs and crime within the community while providing support to those in need. In an effort orchestrated on the west side of Columbus, Franklin Township, and Prairie Township, this year's operation placed a strong emphasis on connecting local individuals to crucial resources, such as addiction treatment and mental health services, in addition to enforcing the law against drug networks.

The first day was primarily dedicated to outreach, where individuals were offered aid in the practical form of self-care products, first aid, clothing, and the much-needed guidance to traverse through the mire of the court system with representatives from Franklin County Municipal Court, Prosecutor’s Office, and Public Defender’s Office being present Sheriff Dallas L. Baldwin emphasized the operation's humanitarian aspect stating "A lot of the people involved in these lower crimes, they’re actually vulnerable people who’ve been preyed upon," according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, "A lot of times, they’re actually victims of other criminal activity, so we know it’s very important to find those people and get them linked to services, which will make a change in their lives."

Women involved in prostitution were a particular focus, with deputies interacting with over 30 females to offer support and connect them with treatment centers; seven of these women actively sought help during the outreach. "A lot of them really do want help – they’re begging for help – they just don’t know how to get it," Sheriff Baldwin noted, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, as he detailed the department's role in facilitating access to care, which he views as a benefit not only to the individuals but to the larger community.

The operation's second day shifted gears towards enforcement, seeing deputies make a total of 15 non-drug-related felony arrests, 1 drug-related felony arrest, and 22 non-drug-related misdemeanor arrests. One firearm was seized alongside various narcotics, including 1 gram of methamphetamine, 462 grams of marijuana, 3 grams of fentanyl, and 8 grams of cocaine. Despite the focus on enforcement, the outreach efforts continued, rounding off a multi-faceted approach to addressing the intricate web of issues in the targeted areas.
