Parole has been denied for Louis Sale, the man convicted of a fatal DUI crash that claimed the life of Vivaldo Braga Veloso Jr. in 2016. According to a social media post by the San Mateo County District Attorney, after a recent hearing that included the presence of the prosecuting office and Veloso's family, the decision was made to deny Sale parole and set another hearing for three years.

The tragic incident occurred southbound on Highway 101 when Sale, with a blood-alcohol concentration of .15%, rear-ended Veloso's vehicle, leading to fatal injuries. Following the event, The Mercury News reported that Sale had consumed 16 shots of alcohol before the crash. In the wake of the accident and subsequent investigations, Sale faced numerous charges and was convicted of second-degree murder.

Steve Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County District Attorney, cited Sale's high level of intoxication and reckless driving as key factors in the decision to pursue a second-degree murder charge. "He knew it was dangerous, and it warranted the higher punishment," Wagstaffe said in an interview with The Mercury News. With this conviction, Sale now faces at least 15 years to life in prison, with sentencing previously scheduled for April 27.

The initial verdict came after a jury convicted Sale of multiple criminal charges, including drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter. However, it took additional deliberation for the agreement on the murder charge, which took about two hours of jury discussion.
