A recent collision at the intersection of Somerset Hills Avenue and Biagi Street has left a pedestrian in critical condition, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The incident, which involved a 2017 Audi A4 and a 78-year-old female pedestrian, was reported by LVMPD on October 7. The LVMPD's initial investigation suggests that the pedestrian was crossing Somerset Hills Avenue when struck by the vehicle. The driver, identified as 46-year-old Clifford Mosby, was accompanied by passenger Sabrina Meeks, 47. Neither Mosby nor Meeks was injured in the collision.
The LVMPD's press release indicated that the Audi was executing a left turn onto Somerset Hills Avenue from Biagi Street when the collision with the pedestrian occurred. Struck during the maneuver, the pedestrian was projected onto the roadway, in an event which emphasizes how quickly a regular traffic flow can become a site of calamity. After the incident, she was transported with life-threatening injuries to the trauma center at University Medical Center and remains in critical condition.
The driver, Clifford Mosby, stayed on the scene and cooperated with the authorities, while the collision investigation section of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department continues to scrutinize the circumstances of the event. The initial findings point to the pedestrian walking in an "implied crosswalk," and it was in this space, her presumed safe passage, where her trajectory intersected with the vehicle's path. Fortunately, impairment was not a factor for Mosby, as per the LVMPD's report.
Currently, the investigation is ongoing, and the identity of the injured pedestrian has not been released, pending notification of her family. Our earlier report misstated that Sabrina Meeks was also transported to the hospital, but she did not sustain any injuries from the collision.
