Philadelphia residents should brace for a damp and blustery end to their week, according to the latest weather reports. The National Weather Service in Philadelphia has forecasted a series of changing conditions, starting with mostly cloudy skies and a modest high of 58 degrees today.
Tonight, the outlook begins to shift. There's a "chance of showers before 1am, then rain likely after 1am," as noted by NWS Philadelphia. The expected low is around 52 degrees, with northeast winds blowing at 10 to 15 mph. The chance of precipitation is pegged at 70%, with new precipitation volumes estimated between a tenth and quarter of an inch.
Thursday's forecast appears even more ominous with heavy rain and possible thunderstorms predicted to arrive after 11am. Winds may become notably gusty, with the NWS advising of east wind speeds reaching 15 to 20 mph and gusts up to 35 mph. "Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall," and there's a certainty of precipitation at 100% and potential rainfall amounts ranking between 1 and 2 inches.
The wet conditions are likely to persist into Thursday night, with rain expected to continue until roughly 2am, subsequently dropping to a slight chance of showers. The temperature will drop again, with a low around 48. Winds will shift from southeast to westerly post-midnight, while the likelihood of further rainfall is forecasted at 80%, with additional precipitation accumulating between a quarter, and half of an inch.
Looking forward to the weekend, Philadelphians can expect a respite from the rain with "Mostly sunny" skies anticipated for Friday, per NWS Philadelphia. The forecast suggests a notable chill in the air, however, with breezy conditions reaching up to 20 mph and gusts possibly hitting 40 mph. Temperatures should stabilize, with daily highs hovering close to the upper 50s and nightly lows in the 40s through to the early part of next week, when there's a return to a chance of showers on Monday.
