The Operation Medicine Cabinet event last Saturday in Pinellas County, organized by multiple law enforcement agencies, collected 787.33 pounds of medication. The event, held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., provided a way for the public to safely dispose of unused or expired medications and aimed to prevent accidental ingestion by children and increase awareness about prescription drug misuse, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Participating in the event were the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Clearwater Police Department, Largo Police Department, Pinellas Park Police Department, Indian Shores Police Department, and St. Petersburg Police Department. These agencies help manage the collection of unused medications to prevent them from being misused or improperly discarded.

The medications collected during the event will be disposed of properly to reduce the risk of environmental contamination and prevent unintended use or misuse. In addition to this event, the Sheriff’s Office offers year-round collection through drop-off containers at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Administration Building in Largo and the North District Station in Dunedin.
