A man was found dead with "significant" traumatic injuries along Route 28 in Pittsburgh, sparking an investigation by local authorities. Emergency crews, after being called to the scene near Chestnut Street at around 7:23 p.m. last night, discovered the victim already lifeless, as detailed by WPXI. Despite initial conjectures, Pittsburgh Police have promptly reported that, "There were no vehicles in the area by the time first responders arrived."
Pittsburgh Police are currently trying to piece together the incidents that led to the man's demise, initially believed to have possibly fallen while walking along the road. WTAE reported that officers and first responders converged on the northbound exit ramp to Chestnut Street along Route 28 around 8 p.m., where they found the man with the traumatic injuries that suggested a significant fall. The Collision Investigation Unit has been called in to thoroughly examine and gather more evidence to understand the cause.
The identity of the man has not been released pending notification of next of kin. As Pittsburgh Police continue to investigate the startling incident, any potential witnesses are urged to come forward with information that might help to reconstruct what happened.
