Following a recent incident involving Portland police officers and a violent struggle over a weapon, the Portland Police Bureau took a significant step in the interest of public transparency. Body-worn camera footage has been released that captures the event leading to the use of deadly force by officers. This release seeks to provide a factual account of the confrontation that resulted in the injury of two officers and the hospitalization of the suspect.

Officers David Randall, with nearly three years of service, and Melissa Babasin, with just over a year and a half with the Portland Police Bureau, were the involved parties and both are desked to Central Precinct. Following the encounter, as part of the standard protocol, Officer Babasin was placed on administrative leave. While recovering at home now, both officers required hospital care subsequent to the altercation.

In the interaction that led to gunfire, the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Bo W. Davis of Portland, attempted to grab one of the officer's guns. He has since been charged with multiple felonies, including Attempted Murder and Robbery in the First Degree, according to the Portland Police Bureau. Post discharge from the hospital, Davis was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center, also facing additional charges for Assaulting a Public Safety Officer and Menacing, on top of an existing warrant.

As the investigation unfolds, the bureau is asking any witnesses or individuals with relevant information to step forward. They can contact detectives at [email protected] or by calling 503-823-0479, referencing case number 25-266458.
