Tragedy struck on a popular cycling route south of Reno last Saturday, taking the life of a local bicyclist and leaving the community mourning. The incident, as 8 News Now reported, involved a car veering into the bicycle lane and killing 62-year-old Susan Mae Goodenow, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, Rew Goodenow, a former president of the State Bar of Nevada, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
According to further details released by the KOLOTV, the driver of a 1995 Subaru Legacy was traveling north on US395 Alternate, failed to maintain their lane and crossed into the path of the cycling couple in the designated bike lane, after the collision, the vehicle came to a halt it's this series of heartbreaking events that remind us of the fragility of life as people engage in everyday activities such as a morning bike ride.
The incident occurred near mile marker 11 on the old highway between Reno and Carson City at about 9 a.m. The Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command Major Incident Reconstruction Team is currently investigating and has yet to release additional information or possible charges against the Subaru driver as of now. This crash contributes to a grim tally for the year, with the Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command having investigated 29 crashes resulting in 33 deaths to date.
