Residents of Rockdale County can now expect improved warnings during severe weather. The county’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) has installed a new outdoor weather siren system to alert the public to threats such as tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. The sirens are intended to reach people outdoors who may not have immediate access to phones or other communication devices, as per the Rockdale County press release.
According to the EMA, the sirens have been strategically placed in populated and frequently visited areas to ensure maximum coverage. Some users attempting to access more details on the county’s website encountered an HTTP 503 error, temporarily limiting access. The website provided troubleshooting information and contact details for those affected.
To help residents understand how to respond to siren alerts, the EMA has distributed educational materials explaining the different siren tones and recommended safety actions. This effort aims to ensure residents know how to take immediate shelter when necessary.
The project was funded through the county budget and implemented without disrupting existing emergency services. Additional information about the weather siren system and related safety procedures is available on the Rockdale County EMA’s official website.
