A 39-year-old Roseville resident led police on multiple car chases yesterday morning, starting with a suspected DUI traffic stop and ending with a foot chase. The man, identified as Sean Matthews, initially fled from a Roseville police officer near the 500 block of Riverside Avenue around 5 a.m., according to The Sacramento Bee. The pursuit was called off when it became too dangerous on Interstate 80.
Matthews was later spotted again by officers, this time at approximately 8 a.m. near Sixth and E streets. In an attempt to make a second stop for the previous felony evasion, officers initiated another pursuit that had to be quickly called off due to the erratic and dangerous maneuverings of Matthew's vehicle. "Officers recognized the driver as Matthews and pulled him over for the prior felony evasion, which led to the second pursuit," as reported by FOX40.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies later located Matthews and unfortunately became involved in a third chase, during which Matthews' vehicle collided with a patrol car. The suspect managed to evade capture even after the deputies used a pit maneuver in their efforts to stop him. After losing sight of Matthews, he found his way back to Roseville, as noted by The Sacramento Bee.
Matthews' run from the law came to an end after abandoning his vehicle and attempting to run on foot. Roseville police officers, aided by a K-9 unit, apprehended him near Santucci and Vista Grande boulevards. "The man eventually fled on foot and was apprehended by a Roseville K-9 unit," Sgt. Nick Gaines told The Sacramento Bee. Matthews is expected to be booked into South Placer Jail on charges including DUI, two counts of felony evasion, and is also facing multiple outstanding warrants. Additional charges related to the pursuits are anticipated from Sacramento County authorities.
