The Sacramento community can breathe a sigh of relief as the two survivors from the October 6 REACH Air Medical helicopter crash, return home. According to ABC10, both the paramedic, Margaret Davis, and the pilot, Chad Millward, involved in the incident that brought rush-hour traffic to a standstill when their aircraft went down onto Highway 50, have been released from the hospital. They had previously transported a patient to UC Davis Medical Center before the crash occurred.
Following stabilization and significant medical intervention, Davis was discharged from hospital care last week, while Millward's release occurred this week. Tragically, despite efforts to save all aboard, nurse Suzie Smith succumbed to her injuries in the days following the crash. FOX40 reports that both survivors are continuing their recovery at inpatient rehabilitation facilities.
REACH Air Medical Services has publicly acknowledged the community's support during this critical period. "The outpouring of compassion and concern from our community has been a source of strength for all those affected by this month's accident," they shared in a social media update, a sentiment that was also echoed in statements obtained by both ABC10 and FOX40. The company emphasized their gratitude for the continued thoughts and prayers extended towards their crew members and loved ones.
As Davis and Millward begin a new chapter of healing, there remains a collective mourning for Smith, whom REACH describes as having made "remarkable contributions to our community," as noted by FOX40. Details about her memorial service, officials note, will be forthcoming from her family.
