This title was bestowed as acknowledgment of Visit Salado's initiative in leveraging tourism as a means of propagating economic growth, job creation, and attracting visitors from across the globe to the region and to Texas at large.
In a ceremony marked by pride and optimism, Governor Greg Abbott congratulated the community, emphasizing the pivotal role that tourism plays in energizing the local and state economies. "Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies," Abbott stated, noting the nearly $200 billion annual economic impact of travelers in Texas, that also supports, 1.3 million jobs. Texas communities were encouraged by the governor's office to pursue the Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community status to help amplify tourism and employment throughout the state, according to a press release from the governor's office.
Historical charm and present-day allure come together in Salado, a site of cultural significance since its founding as a stagecoach station in the mid-19th century. "Salado has been a destination of tourism since its inception as a stagecoach stop in 1860," highlighted Senator Pete Flores, pointing out the village's longstanding tradition of extending Texas hospitality to travelers like General Sam Houston and others drawn to events such as the summer gatherings at Pace Park or the Highland Games.
Adding to the commendations, Representative Brad Buckley expressed his delight in the designation, recognising the village's unique blend of early Texas heritage and contemporary offerings in art, entertainment, and commerce. Mayor Pro Tem Zach Hurst welcomed the recognition, noting it reflects the village's dedication to creating a hospitable environment for visitors and its commitment to bolstering Salado's reputation as a sought-after destination, according to the same announcement.
