A San Jose man was arrested on suspicion of attempting to sneak drugs into Redwood City's Maple Street Correctional Center, San Mateo County Sheriff's Deputies reported. Brian E. Siordia, 27, tried to visit an inmate at the correctional facility yesterday, around 8 PM. Siordia, who is on active felony probation and a former inmate in San Mateo County, didn't have approval to be on the premises, a requirement by law for released individuals seeking to return.
While in the lobby of the correctional facility, necessary for maintaining surveillance, deputies noticed Siordia and subsequently arrested him. Found in possession of suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a cell phone hidden in his shoe upon his arrest, visitors are prohibited from bringing such items into the secure correctional environment. "The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to providing a safe and secure custodial environment for our staff, visitors and those in our custody," Sheriff Christina Corpus said, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office report.
Siordia, after receiving quick action by the deputies, is now facing multiple charges. These charges include bringing controlled substances and alcohol/drugs into jail, unauthorized presence on jail grounds by a former inmate, and bringing communication devices into jail. Following his arrest, he was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility.
