Swift action by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies led to the arrest of a juvenile carjacking suspect with suspected gang affiliations less than a day after the alleged crime occurred. According to a Facebook post by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, the incident took place around 6:45 PM on September 29th, near Ridge Route Road in Castaic.
The deputies responded to the victim's call, who reported being confronted by an armed individual who demanded his vehicle and subsequently fled the scene. With efforts to quickly apprehend the suspect, detectives specializing in juvenile and gang-related crimes located the individual in Northern California. It was a coordination between local authorities and Fresno PD that enabled them to safely arrest the suspect, who was found with a loaded "ghost gun" inside the stolen vehicle.
The suspect, not originally from the Santa Clarita area, was then transported back to SCV by the deputies and booked at the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station. The Sheriff’s Station confirmed the security of all the evidence pertaining to the case. The juvenile is now facing several charges as a result of the incident.
The Facebook update concluded with the hashtags #gotcha and #scvsheriff, indicating both a sense of completion for the case and the department's online engagement approach. They have not released further details regarding the suspect's identity due to age and legal constraints. The Sheriff's Station assured the community of their commitment to keeping the streets safe, and their promptness in addressing violent crimes like carjacking continues to be a priority.
