Yesterday, a chilling scene unfolded on a quiet street in Santa Rosa, where a man was found lifeless, prompting a full investigation by the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD). As detailed in an SRPD news release, at around 6:25 AM, the SRPD was alerted by a resident about an unresponsive person on Brookwood Avenue near Birdfoot Way. The deceased man, who appeared to have been shot, was later identified by the Sonoma County Coroner’s Office as 60-year-old Mark Calcagni.
Currently, the authorities are still searching for the perpetrator, with no suspects identified and arrests made, and the firearm is also yet to be found. Despite the ongoing investigation and the potential risk that comes with a violent suspect still at large, SRPD maintains that there isn't an active threat to public safety. A reward has been offered to aid the investigation, and the police are seeking any video evidence the public might possess. "A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered by the Sonoma County Alliance Community Engagement and Safety Fund for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect(s) involved in this homicide," was stated in the SRPD news release.
As reported by Hoodline, the area was closed to the public as detectives from the SRPD's Violent Crime Team took charge of the scene for several hours. Authorities have put out a call for residents to check their surveillance footage for any relevant information that could help unravel the circumstances surrounding the sudden and violent passing of Calcagni.
To those with helpful details, the consequences of coming forward could be financially incentivizing, as the local community fund pitches in with a cash reward. "An incentive underscores the urgency of this plea; the offer of a cash reward of up to $2,500 from the Sonoma County Alliance Community Engagement and Safety Fund, slated for those providing critical info that leads to an arrest or conviction," according to Hoodline.
