In Sauget, Illinois, 33-year-old high school baseball coach Demetrius Combs has been indicted on drug trafficking charges. He was arrested on September 25 and faces multiple counts, including distributing fentanyl and methamphetamine, as well as possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a federal initiative targeting drug cartels, illegal immigration, and violent crime.
The indictment, filed on August 27, accuses Combs of selling drugs between June and August 2023. During a police search of his home and car, officers found cash, firearms, fentanyl capsules, a pistol, three cell phones, and additional weapons, including one converted into a fully automatic firearm. These findings came from an investigation involving the St. Louis County Police Department and the FBI.
Authorities also reported that an undercover officer bought narcotics from Combs several times, providing evidence that may be used at trial. Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Christian Goeke is leading the prosecution as part of the federal effort to disrupt criminal organizations operating in the region.
