The National Weather Service in Seattle has forecasted a rollercoaster of weather patterns for the coming week. The city woke up to mostly cloudy skies and a chilly 43°F today, with the humidity lingering at a heavy 86 percent, according to the latest update from the NWS. Visibility held at a clear 10 miles, offering some respite to commuters on this cloud-laden morning.
As the day progresses, Seattle residents can expect to see a chance of rain both before and after the midday mark. The NWS reports "A chance of rain before 1pm, then a chance of rain after 2pm." They forecast a daytime high near a tepid 54 degrees, with light and variable winds shifting to come from the east southeast at around 6 mph in the morning hours. The overarching chance of precipitation remains pegged at a tentative 40 percent. After sundown, the likelihood of rainfall jumps up, promising a near-certain 100 percent chance of rain before the early hours of the following morning, with new precipitation potentially adding up to between a quarter and half an inch.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, showers are likely, mainly before 11 am, and skies will clear up somewhat to partly sunny with a high flirting with 58 degrees. The south-southwest wind should maintain a gentle pace at 6 to 9 mph, and the NWS says that "new precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible." Thursday will offer a brief reprieve with partly sunny skies and a high near 55, as the north northeast wind remains calm around 6 mph, allowing residents a brief moment to enjoy the autumn crispness without the hindrance of wet weather.
The respite, however, is short-lived as Friday's forecast calls for rain again with an 80 percent chance of precipitation. The weekend continues the wet trend, with rain likely on Saturday and a high nearing 59 degrees, heralding the onset of what seems to be a characteristically damp Seattle autumn. A brief break in showers Saturday night may not be enough to fully appreciate as rain chances pick back up into early Sunday and persist through the start of the new week, with mostly cloudy conditions prevailing.
