Overnight road repairs are set to begin on two bridges in Sevierville next week, potentially causing delays for late-night drivers. According to a social media post from the Sevierville Police Department, the work will kick off Tuesday, October 28, and will include milling and repaving activities on the Collier Drive bridge and the Winfield Dunn Parkway (Highway 66) bridge.
Work is scheduled to take place from midnight to 8 a.m., during a time when traffic is typically less congested, in order to minimize impact. However, lane closures are expected, and motorists traveling through the areas should cautiously be prepared to adjust to changing traffic patterns. Crews will be present, along with their equipment, which may also lead to slower traffic flow.
The Sevierville Police Department's announcement detailed that the repairs are weather dependent, and any inclement weather could lead to a rescheduling of the planned work. The planned lane closures are meant to allow at least some traffic to maintain movement through the construction zones.
Milling and paving of the bridge surfaces are significant undertakings necessary to ensure their longevity and safety. The tentative schedule highlights that on October 28, work will begin on the westbound lanes of the Collier Drive bridge near Parkway. The following night will see repairs to the eastbound lanes. The Highway 66 bridge, known locally as the Fred C. Atchley Memorial Bridge, will have its southbound lanes closed on October 30 and northbound lanes on October 31, each to also take place between midnight and 8 a.m.
