The Sevierville Police Department is set to join the nationwide effort to safely dispose of unused prescriptions this coming weekend. As part of the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, an initiative offering the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft, the SPD will host their local event on Saturday, October 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This Take Back event, as announced on the Sevierville Police Department's Facebook page, will take place at the Walmart Neighborhood Market located at 1185 Dolly Parton Parkway.
No syringes will be accepted during the event.
For those unable to attend the event on October 25, the Sevierville Police Department offers an alternative solution. Residents have the option to utilize the SPD Drug Take Back receptacle that is accessible at any time or day of the week.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, a statement on the SPD's social media post declared, "Unneeded prescription medication–those that are old, unwanted, or no longer needed – are a public safety issue, too often becoming a gateway to addiction." The shared concern is that pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when they are taken without a proper prescription or doctor's supervision.
