A Shelby Township man, Jared Tyhir Barber, is facing charges after allegedly stealing an iPad during a Facebook Marketplace exchange. The 21-year-old was arraigned on charges of larceny from a person and assaulting, resisting, and obstructing a police officer, with his bond set at $50,000 cash, as reported by ClickOnDetroit.

Police were alerted to the theft, which occurred last Thursday at the Pebble Creek Apartments in Shelby Township. The victim had arranged to sell Barber an iPad 16, but during the exchange, Barber reportedly grabbed the device and took off running away. Officers were able to immediately recognize Barber from the description and deployed both a K9 and a drone in the search.

An officer located Barber, who failed to comply with verbal commands and attempted to flee. "When officers found Barber, he allegedly ran away after being ordered to stop," noted a ClickOnDetroit report. The confrontation ended when the police deployed a Taser, bringing Barber to the ground. A subsequent search of Barber's home yielded the suspected stolen iPad.

Further confirming the series of events, the CBS News Detroit coverage cites Police Chief Robert Shelide, who praised the officers' actions. "I'm proud of our officers for their quick response and determination in stopping a suspect who tried to steal from another person," Shelide said. Their dedication was also highlighted in ensuring that when Barber chose to run away, the officers managed to apprehend and take him into custody without hesitation.

Barber is scheduled to return to court on October 20 for a probable cause conference. If convicted of the charges against him, Barber could face significant penalties for his alleged act of theft and his subsequent behavior during the arrest.
