A stabbing incident that left one man dead at a Southgate Kroger has culminated with no charges for killing, as the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office deemed it an act of self-defense. ClickOnDetroit reports that the altercation occurred on Tuesday, when Charles M. Hinton, 33, was approached and punched by Ramon Vazquez, 23, at the Kroger where Hinton worked. Hinton responded by stabbing Vazquez, who later died from these injuries.
The Prosecutor's Office informed CBS News Detroit that Hinton acted in lawful self-defense and won't be charged in the stabbing. However, the same report mentioned that Hinton is facing one count of carrying a concealed weapon, as he had the knife on him illegally during the time of the attack. The arraignment for this charge is expected to take place today.
According to details from WXYZ, Vazquez entered the store seeking Hinton and initiated the physical confrontation. Statements from authorities have indicated that, notwithstanding their prior knowledge of each other, the two had never met before this incident. The reason behind the attack, which took place on Fort Street near Pennsylvania Road, remains unknown.
