Drivers can now cross the Green River again as the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) completed repairs on the SR 169 Dan Evans Bridge south of Black Diamond. Two-way traffic resumed today, following work that began after an August inspection revealed significant girder damage. The bridge had operated with single-lane traffic before closing for full repairs on September 15, according to Washington State Department of Transportation.
Emergency crews installed new steel supports to strengthen the 1932 steel truss bridge, which carries about 10,500 vehicles daily between Black Diamond and Enumclaw. Governor Bob Ferguson acknowledged the repair teams for their work and reaffirmed the state’s focus on maintaining safe and reliable infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the SR 410 White River Bridge between Buckley and Enumclaw remains closed after sustaining heavy damage from an over-height vehicle on August 18. The Washington State Department of Transportation stated that contractor crews are working seven days a week to restore the bridge, with reopening expected between October 31 and November 14.
Until then, traffic is being detoured through SR 164, SR 18, and SR 167, routes that can add 45 to 60 minutes to travel times. Governor Ferguson also announced that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will provide Economic Injury Disaster Loans to help affected businesses in nearby counties manage financial losses caused by the closure.
