In a coordinated law enforcement effort, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, along with local, state and federal partners, apprehended more than 30 suspects in two distinct operations aimed at protecting children and ensuring compliance with sex offender regulations. Detailed in a recent Facebook post by the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, Operation Safe Passage conducted between September 17-20, focused on individuals using the internet to exploit minors. Detectives, masquerading as children, engaged with predators on popular online platforms, leading to 17 arrests. Notably, the predators, from various counties, attempted to meet with minors but were swiftly detained.

Additionally, between September 22-25, Operation Unified Watch was launched to verify that registered sexual offenders and predators in St. Johns County were in compliance with legal requirements. This four-day surveillance, involving the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit and several other agencies, contacted 249 registered individuals, which resulted in 19 further arrests for a range of compliance violations. As stated by St. Johns County Sheriff Rob Hardwick, "This should send a strong message to offenders – regardless of borders, we will do everything in our power to protect children and hold you accountable."

The arrestees from Operation Safe Passage included individuals of varying ages and from different areas, such as Edwin Carlos, 20, Brandoll Diaz Martinez, 26, and Bradley Taguiam, 37, amongst others. The operations showcased an extensive partnership, with the FBI, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, and Homeland Security included in the list of assisting agencies. The Sheriff's Office underlined the importance of parental and guardian vigilance in monitoring children's online activities and setting clear boundaries on the use of technological devices.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office concluded their announcements with a cautionary note, confirming 36 outstanding warrants and expectations for additional arrests stemming from Operation Unified Watch. These operations manifest the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to inhibit Internet-facilitated sexual exploitation and enforce sex offender registration laws. "Parents and guardians please be involved in your children’s lives, monitor their online activities and set boundaries for cell phone usage. We all have a responsibility to protect the most vulnerable in our community. If you see something, say something,” implored Sheriff Hardwick in his message to the public.
