St. Louis Park is calling property maintenance personnel and community members to the table in November, offering opportunities for education and feedback in separate events aimed at shaping the future of housing and public safety in the area.

The city has scheduled a SPARC meeting focusing on property maintenance for rental properties on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 10 to 11 am at St. Louis Park City Hall. Attendees, especially encouraged to comprise of maintenance staff, will be enlightened on the rental license inspection process, hear about common code compliance issues, and receive tips for preventative maintenance. Interested parties must register by noon on Monday, Nov. 10, to secure their spot at the council chambers on the third floor.

In a separate but equally vital effort, the St. Louis Park Police Department is working to develop a strategic plan reflective of the community's perspective on public safety. "The City of St. Louis Park is in the process of developing a strategic plan for the St. Louis Park Police Department, and we want to make sure your voice is part of that process," states the city announcement. A survey, which can be accessed by scanning a provided QR code or clicking the link here, has been released to collect input from community members, with the deadline for submissions set for Oct. 27.

Furthermore, the city has organized online rental license training spread over two days, Oct. 21 and 22, covering a diverse array of topics from fair housing, racial equity to mental health and housing. According to the announcement, “Fall rental license training will be offered online in two half-day sessions.” Registration is mandatory for rental license holders, as stipulated by the city ordinance, barring those who meet certain exemptions.

Complementing the online sessions, a free legal training session will also take place on Oct. 21, offering insight on bias training and covering aspects of landlord-tenant law. Hosting the event is Attorney Robin Ann Williams who comes with a promise of expounding on fair housing, reasonable accommodation, rental agreements, and evictions. The aim is to extend knowledge to those who have completed their required city training, as mentioned in the official city announcement.
